Checking myself in for a week

Last night I sat outside by the light of the moon, watching the clouds go by. It seems as if the world moves faster when you watch the clouds….

I had a few revelations in this hour in the moonlight. I heard my “other” name (by surprise) and I decided it is time to take off for a week and re-prioritize. There are changes waiting to happen, yet my current situation keeps gobbling me up and pushing evolution away. A voice in my head is telling me that not only are at least 3 humans and one dog relying on me, so is my spirit. Not so long ago, I wise woman told me I was like the canary the miners used to take into mines to let them know when the air runs out. It is time for me to make some changes and escape the cage before I tweet my last canary tweet. It is time to stand back and regroup.

I am both physically and “mentally” not at my best. Much of my physical ailment stems from breaking my back 18 years ago (if this statement intrigues you, you can read more about this experience in my book, “Gooddess in the Groove ~ Musings From the Goddess Within” :)..), and age (ugh). As the nonchalant doctor told me a few months ago: “You just have to do more exercise.” Ok. But it is not just my weak leg, there are other issues I have to take care of, and when I listen to my instincts, they are saying it is time to be quiet and listen……

On recommendation of the above wise woman, I tried to create a tribe in my “real” world ( my cyber presence is nurtured so much more than the real me, and frightfully better balanced!), and it seems the time was not right. That was meant to be my anchor, instead I was the captain trying to keep a capsizing boat afloat. I realize now it is time to cast out a new line and find the community that will be my anchor during the next year, as I hear the messengers whispering of a new journey.

This morning I opened my email, and my daily horoscope says:
“Consider taking time off to relax”.

You don’t have to hit me in the head with a brick….

So I am signing off for at least a week. Going to talk to the trees, catch some fresh air, enjoy my kids……and hopefully the next moon session will bring some answers. Of course I will never cut the umbilical cord from my computer, I am only clamping it for a minute to catch my breathe.

Ciao.

Weekend Warrior

The weekend is upon us!

We love the lazy days of the weekend. Sundays are “hang out and scour the Sunday paper with a huge cup of coffee”…then comes the rest of the day.

Here are some of the things we do, and they are under $20!!

1. Go to the Farmers’ Market at 11:40 am and get the best deals! Bags of delicious fruits and veggies, packed to go home with you instead of back to the farm… :)…It is like a treasure hunt for us. How much yummies can we buy for $20??

2. Take a long walk to the funky little waffle house that is filled with cute seniors on Sunday morning. Order 2 humongous breakfast entrees, and share. Lots of coffee comes with them anyways, what else does a girl need? Then take the long walk back home to get rid of all that healthy breakfast……

3. Take your $20 and go to the Thrift store! Give each child $2 to buy what they want, and go HUNT! Most of our local thrift stores have an email list where you get notices of sales. Really, a pair of new jeans for my son at $1.99, with an extra 50% off?? You can buy a new weekend outfit for the whole family for that price!

4. Take your kids for a night ride! Stop at Dairy Queen for a small ice-cream dipped in CHOCOLATE!! Ride as far as your expensive gas will take you…and back home. If you are lucky, they will be asleep when you get home and you can sit back and relax with your honey-bunny and…….

5. Take the family, including dog, to the river for a long walk, with the theme “rocks”. Find fabulous rocks to take home and decorate, paint, stack…or just leave around the house like in our casa. Give your dog a doggy backpack, he can help carry.

6. Rent a cool movie for the family, turn on the AC, make popcorn, cool a beer, and laugh, laugh, laugh! Some of latest adventures: The Witches/ Yours, Mine, and Ours/ Scooby Doo (various versions), The Haunted House.

7. Call your girlfriend and hang out in the bookstore with a huge Latte’, in your favorite section, and chatter (you will find me in the “Occult” section :)..LOL..with my big black hat on.).

Why I blog

I remember reading my first blogs and being wowed by the technical brains of these bloggers. It wasn’t until my friend sent me the witty Dooce that I decided that I need to blog too.

I mean really, where else can I say what I want without someone jumping down my throat or running away in tears (well, they still do, but I have the power of the delete button when they piss me off too bad, or when they are too chicken to show face and post as “anonymous”. I just LOVE me some anonymous….)? Where can I express my creative language freely? Where can I hold heated discussions that FINALLY can be seen by others so that everyone does not call ME the bitch all the time?

This blog was born.

I thought I could reach the world, send out “uplifting” thoughts and rants, gift a sale, etc, etc, etc.

I did not think that I would become addicted, and I did not think that my ego would rise and fall with the number of comments I get :). Really, I thought I left all the need to succeed when I finished high school…..

I also did not anticipate the fabulous women that would come into my life through this little window to the world. Oh my GODDESS!! I had no idea you were out there! Women who I have never met in real life, but that I would walk across hot coals for. And dare you mess with them, I will pull out my roots and deal with you….I just love them, need them, and will make the earth move to make sure my computer is always connected to them. If I did not have them in my little isolated part of the world, I would just wilt away like an abandoned flower…

A few days ago I met yet another woman, one I did not know about. I met her in real life, and when I introduced myself, she smiled and said: “I know you.” You do? I started getting a bit uncomfortable when she asked about my kids and Rex, because now I am thinking I am going to have to be rude and ask her who she is. Then she tells me that she has been reading my blog and website for a long time. She says I make her laugh, and how my posts have often pulled her out of a depression. She says she feels like we are BFF. I asked her who she is, and don’t recognize her name. She does not comment here, or anywhere else :). But she knows who she is, and I think we are going to be good friends, for real.

So when someone recently asked WHY I blog, I could have said:
1. for business
2. for exposure
3. to maximize my marketing
4. as an extension of the community of my website, www.goddessinthegroove.com

🙂

But really, I need my girls.
Basta.
Much love,
Heike

I know what you were doing while I was away….

Now I can spill the beans, because it is all over.

I was alone for 5 whole days, with my dog, while my family went away on a mini vacation to ALABAMA!!! for a family reunion 🙂 While they were having a wonderful time with family & friends, I was home.

Was I sad? After day one of feeling lost and painfully unscheduled, I settled into my role of bum and enjoyed the moment. I made piles of paper everywhere, and did not feel the need to move them in order to set the table, sleep in my bed, etc. I found long lost receipts and legos. I scrubbed my kids’ rooms, and made a mental note to lecture on “hygiene” when they get home. I went to a fancy dinner with a friend, and to the Greek Food Festival with another friend. I took my dog to the river and on long walks without looking at my phone to see what time it is…we went home whenever my legs cried or the hot dog treats ran out. I took long trips to the thrift store and left with nothing. I made blackberry jam….and it is highly edible this time!!! I was so excited, I bought more glasses and made Zwetschgen jam too. What are Zwetschgen?? That will be your riddle from me ….

I drank wine, and beer, all by myself. I finished two of the books I was reading for a very long time. I ripped out my dead garden, weeded, and planted a zillion bean and pea seeds…and put a curse on those damn rats that ate my tomatoes. I finally picked my sage before it wilted and made lavendar/sage smudge sticks.

Yesterday, I was so happy to have my family back. They were home for 30 minutes and it was loud, messy, and crazy again.

Home sweet home.
