The Blue Moon my way

I was just outside, in my favorite chair, basking in the light of the Blue Moon, sipping a cold beer. Yes, my full moon rituals are non traditional, they are for me only, so I make the rules. I have stopped following what “I am supposed to do” a long time ago. I used to beat myself up for missing the rituals, not preparing, not being in the right mood to celebrate. I stopped going to gatherings, because sometimes, even though the rituals & goddesses were AMAZING, and the energy was incredible, it did not “feel” right. One full moon, I was sick. I stayed home, and when all was quiet, I took a ritual shower, bundled up, and laid on my hammock in the moonlight. It was the best, most rejuvenating and spirit jamming full moon ever.

🙂

Tonight, the rare Blue Moon. She is preparing to be completely full at 6:58am in the morning. Most likely, I will be fast asleep, as my full moon nights are always energetic and full of tasks. This night will be filled with witches & pendants, as they are all jabbering and waiting to be finished, especially after their Blessing.

This Blessing was different than the many others. The witches are happy, giggly, mischievous, ready to work their magic in their new spaces. One has a special assignment, she is the “tribute” of the clan, she will help my buy the new camera we so desperately need. She already knows…..

The pendants are what brought me to tears. As I held them out to the moon, their energy swirled. As I held them close to my heart, they made me cry. Happy cry. They are here to heal. They are so beautiful and strong, and have let me know specifically that they are healers. They also let me know that they need to be finished, as their women are waiting for them.

I spent my personal time with La Luna, enveloped in a light breeze that was hugging me, animals chirping. Arranging my goddesses for a recharge (we all need a little boost on a regular basis, and my goddesses get a workout!), sinking my minerals in water, lighting a cinnamon scented candle….Tears of relief streaming down my face. She knows what I need, even if it is a swift kick. I got the message.

I am grateful for my life, and my mission here.
Sending you all some Moon love,  and hope your
wishes are granted.
With love,
Heike

Revival of the Warrior Princess

I have never had to diet. I have always been healthy & allergen free, so I have never had to restrict what I ate. I had the metabolism of a hummingbird, and HAD to eat all the time, spaghetti at 2 am was a norm for me. My body, over the years, has taken any abuse, mishandling, or  neglect with grace, and carried me proudly and without illness. Until now…

Being over 40 kicked my ass.

I have had some issues stemming from my accident and nerve trauma, and over two years I have been trying to deal with traditional medicine. That did not work at all. Mainly though, I am looking at the state of my muscles, that used t be lean and strong. I did say  USED to be. I often get “but you are older”, but really,  I have seen/met some ass kicking 7o year olds that would put me to SHAME…age is no excuse! My body is getting weaker, and I think it is more the “lazy ass & wrong fuel syndrome” than age. With lazy I don’t mean just exercising, as I a move a lot without dedicating it exercise…I also mean the habitual nourishing: the comfort food, fast food, BAKED goods (I am a sucker for anything baked), wheat.

My gut intuition is telling me that now is the time to make a change, before things get even worse. Putting the medical healing aside, I think this will aid my digestion, my concentration, and raise my sluggish energy level. I also want to prepare my body for the Tough Mudder, my ultimate goal :). Will post some measurements below for good measure (no pun intended).

I have devised the “30 day Revival of the Warrior Princess” plan to get eased into a different way of nourishment & movement.  I wrote it down, as I am not a very consistent human being…It takes 30 days to start a new habit….

1. Modified Primal plan…

Buckwheat & Peaches, with butter

I don’t do well with extremes & restrictions, and don’t believe extreme diets are good for me. I am not a diet, even though 5-10lbs are totally expendable. :)….Since I want to build lean muscle and eat more protein, the Primal or Paleo plans (though both are different) have given me a base, and I am adding in my Weston Price (Nourishing Traditions) knowledge. I am also a type O, if you know about the blood type diet, I should hunt my food and eat it on the fly….aieeeeeeee……..Artemis is my Goddess…..do you see a thread here? My food priorities will go: lean meat or fish, veggies (mostly green), fruits, nuts. I will also eat some ancient grains, and bread, though both minimally and only baked by me. No wheat, only spelt, buckwheat, quinoa. Only fermented dairy: joghurt, kefir. And again, minimally. No sugar. Not sure how I am going to handle ice-cream….

2. 6-8 glasses of water.  Gosh, I stink at drinking enough. I can go a whole day and end up asking “Did I drink anything but coffee today?”. It runs in my family, and I seriously believe I am constantly dehydrated. So, to remind myself, I am devising a ring/band thing to keep me on track. More to come on that. Part of my water consume will be my Spirit Cleanser or Health tea to help cleanse the blood & body, and nettle infusion.  I don’t do vitamins, so this will give my body extra minerals.

3. Go to bed before 12am. I will try.

4. Daily 20 (squats, toe crunches (this is for my ankle/foot injury), ankle rolls), and 15 min of heart raiser (this is intense heart rate upping…not just my dh driving me up the wall).

5. Daily 15 minutes to reflect on Heike….journal, draw, read, snooze…this is MY time behind closed doors. Period.

I won’t bore you with my medical history, and it really only fascinates myself and my mother :)….but I will give you the jist, in case something similar inflicts you.

I have had burning nerve pain for over 4 years, and it stems from nerve trauma from an accident I had when I was 21. I also have muscle atrophy in one leg, the leg that suffered the most trauma. Together, this leads to pain, sleepless nights, weakness & stiffness in the leg, muscle atrophy (the strong leg carries the weak one), misalignment, etc. I have been through acupuncture, medicine, etc. “I” believe I can cure this with healing food & herbs, and that is what I am journaling and proving now.

Here are measurements of my two calves, with I hope to balance within six months of healing food & training:

Left leg: 14 inches
Right leg: 12. 25 inches.

Quit a bit of mass missing.

Even though I mentioned I am NOT dieting, and I am grabbing this belly fat by the britches and kicking it out:

Waist: 33 inches  (maybe it will wander to my chest :)….a girl can hope).
Weight: 143lbs (this will likely not fluctuate too much, may even go up as I gain muscle vs. fat)

phew.

I will start doing some very consistent “use your body as a gym” training outside, rather than continue to go to the gym, but that is another post.

There you go, Beautifuls! Want to join me?

Much love,
Heike

How I get into strange houses without getting arrested…

Today was yet another fabulous find day. My son and I are solo today, so we picked out two estate sales (yes, this is what we do for fun :)..), and headed out.

I LOVE, yes LOVE estate sales. I know it must sound horrific, as estate sales are usually followed by death, but I love them anyways. I have a hidden agenda: they often allow me to go into the old houses I adore, how else get access without getting arrested? I have mentioned before, houses speak to me, and oh my, do I get an earful some times! Some places repel me immediately when I open the door, and I leave without even treasure hunting. I also love the stories. Unfortunately, many estate sales here are handled by companies, not the family, so I have to make up my own story some times by the things I see & feel :), and with the help of my very intuitive and imaginative kids.

This is the case today, and I will share with you:

House #1: Successful South Sacramento Real Estate Agent.
Lives in an area that is pretty down trodden now, but there is an enclave of houses that are big, with great properties! This woman loved her shoes & hats! I found hats from the 40’s on up, and lots of them. Surely she was a distant cousin of Imelda Marcos, and strived to outdo her fabulous cousin? Lots of tie up boots, it seems she liked dressing up in period costumes. Hundreds of shoes…. Unfortunately for me, her feet were too small. So was her head. I wandered around with a red, fur cloiche hat with feathers….kept putting it on my sons little head to make sure it was REALLY as small as it said…contemplated stretching…but alas…I left it. I ended up leaving everything I carried, two hats, two dresses, not sure why, but they did not want to go with me. There must have been a man around some time, as there were about 100 taken apart fans in the back yard, and lots & lots of flashlights, and other “pieces” of stuff that reminds of a tinkerer. My son, who cannot bare to see fruit go to waste, asked if he could pick some of the ripe lemons, asian pears, asian plums, and peaches :). I found a very sharp, heavy duty pair of clippers, perfect for my emerging garden. No pictures of people in this house, but very strange pictures of small white children & babies (painted). She had lots of “stuff”, and a cool vintage red Mercedes, covered in dust, in the garage. I did get a sad vibe, but she definitely had style. Total cost: $1

House #2: Man who loves his toys.

We were in love…..

This was listed as a GUY SALE. We came here because the teaser for my son was a boat for sale, and mine was a vintage car. This car and I, love at first site. Forgot my phone at home, so I have swiped the pic from the notice. They were asking $1999. Had I had $1000 cash in my hand instead of the $20 I budgeted for my day of fun, that baby would have been MINE today.  The seller saw that it belonged to me, and it was obvious that I had some knowledge behind those starry brown eyes. What can I say?
The man who lived here loved to build, reminded me so much of my Opa,  the house was well kept. By the time we got there it had been pretty picked over and some really weird energy. He must have loved his wife, lots of china and cabinets still intact, and we all know how much dusting goes into unnecessary open china cabinets! That spells L-O-V-E.  They were religious people, and like making things. She had a fabulous sewing room (always love sewing rooms, wish I had one), which is where I found my treasures: 1 vintage pair of change a blade pinking shears (with the box!!), a vintage Piper Cub airplane model (with the box!), a beautiful, although stained, 50’s era dress, a National Geographic Collectors edition best photos, a bag full of embroidered edging and metal buttons & clasps from Norway, and a tall plastic thingy of drawers. Whoever was selling the house did not care what things brought in, they wanted the house empty. My luck. Final cost: Hold on tight….$12

One of my favorite houses was a while back, the lawyer with the French wife. I fell in love with these two, obviously passionate people who did what made them happy. The house was filled with furniture and couriosities that vibrated love. It was weird, the house was in a totally strict looking sub-division (you know, the one where you do not dare plant a bold flower in the front yard.). When we drove up, I though “ugh”, but was pleasantly surprised when we went in. The couple selling was not related, but the man got about excited about the stories as I was! :)….Than is how I got my beautiful blue mason jars, for pennies, as he thought “I” should have them. I found lots of bottling, fermenting, and wine making supplies. An old bottle of home-made Patisse….they had  travel books and souvenirs from all over the world. We bought a few treasures that day, one of my favorite is the naked lady that was hanging in their hallway :)…..she graces our bathroom now, and is one of a series of “Naked Ladies” published in the early 19oo’s, according to the writing in the back.

Again, it brings me back to the fact that no matter how much you value your stuff, no matter how well you take care of it……only keep it if you love it and it makes you happy. If you go, it will be harped off for the best price (or free, if you are lucky and someone like me who will LOVE it over comes along).
Have a great weekend,
Much love,
Heike

Did Lammas sneak up on you?

Harvest Goddess

Today is Lammas, the beautiful celebration of the first Harvest. Our crops are abundant, and now the farmers & jam makers will begin the first harvest to stock up for the fall & winter.

If you are in a year of “achievement”, and new endeavors, it also the Full Moon of “What have I achieved to create happiness, success, & abundance?”

Did Lammas sneak up on you?

I spoke with a friend who is in the process of revamping her business, and following a new path, similar to myself. As were going over some new strategies, I frantically realized that Lammas was here. This is the time where I should have “shed” the old and unused (this includes: papers, marketing strategies, business clutter, old files, old pics, people, ideas….etc), and have prepared to “harvest” from my new endeavors, plumping them up for the winter, and that includes ME.

What can I say. I still have not managed to become organized (Is there an app for that?), and perfect. I still celebrate my Full Moons on a spur, honoring La Luna in my garden, with a candle, a glass of wine, and lots of questions & answers. My witches & Goddess are out there with me, being blessed. I live frivolously through my friends, many of them celebrating in fire circles.

Here is a prayer to the God Lugh, master of the artisians & craftspeople (found this on the internet, source unknown):

Prayer to Lugh
Great Lugh!

Master of artisans,

leader of craftsmen,

patron of smiths,

I call upon you and honor you this day.

You of the many skills and talents,

I ask you to shine upon me and
bless me with your gifts.

Give me strength in skill,

make my hands and mind deft,

shine light upon my talents.

O mighty Lugh,
I thank you for your blessings.

I will be singing this to La Luna this evening.  The Universe will excuse me for not being prepared as I had hoped to be, LOL.
Here is my blessing for YOU:
Enjoy this moon of abundance, harvest, accomplishment, no matter where you are in your journey. Write down these few things on a beautiful piece of paper. Keep it primal, no long sentences.
Why you love yourself (and what you are grateful for).
What you want to accomplish by the end of this year (keep it simple).
Save this piece of paper. Find a Lammas prayer that fits your needs. Mine is for artisans, as that fits my needs perfectly. You can change the words and insert your own. It all about what you send out into the universe, not who made it up :). Your strong will, the fact that you wrote it down, and your chanting with a happy heart, will make it happen.
Blessings & Happy Lammas!
Much love,
Heike
